Fishing accident in Hastings 1949

Would anyone know about a fishing boat that collided in fog around March 1949 off the coast of Hasting two people were killed one of them my grandfathers brother in law JAMES HELESDOWN the name of the boat was the PIONEER or maybe who could i contact to find out about this Thank you Margaret

I would suggest that you write to the Reference Library, Claremont, Hastings, giving them all the information you have, and asking them to look this up in the Hastings Observer for you. If you enclose a fairly large stamped addressed envelope they would probably photocopy the article and send it to you - perhaps attach an extra stamp to pay for the copy.

Recently obtained a history of Fairlight which has a full page description of the tragedy,if you would like a photocopy let me know..This account seems to be the same as the article in the local newspaper.
