The ice rink will never reopen. The place is beyond derelict inside. You'd never believe how bad it is. We've been advised that even staff from HBC aren't allowed inside as it's so dangerous. We (my brother and I) were perhaps the last people short of the Health and Safety folk from the Council to view it about 4 years back.It will NEVER be reopened. Just to make it safe would cost a fortune, then, to bring it up to modern standards, would cost another fortune. Just remember it how it used to be.

MMMMM_ _ _.Not so sure about that ..I was talking to a good friend of mine who recently was allowed down into the old baths , since Christmas and he says it was in remarkably good condition. He was allowed access under surpervision of course. He is connected to the Pier Campaign and somehow got permission to go down there to take a look_ _ _Would love to see something made of it but we know its not going to happen dont we ? Probably more chance of hell freezing over and we can all skate there instead !!

Anyone remember this forum that keeps popping up on here?

http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/sho ... hp?t=24550

It's clearly in need of a good lick of paint_ _ _ or 10, but doesn't seen too bad_ _ _ I've seen worse places on that forum!

As for it reopening as an Ice Rink, I can't see it working, maybe the first year or so it will do well, but after the initial novelty/hysteria etc_ _ _ I reckon they'll find it hard to keep it open.

What we need is someone with a bit of money and creativity, music venue/shopping place might go down well in that place?

Who knows_ _ _

Have you seen the photos on the Hastings Underground site of the interior of this place? That will tell you how bad it is. The concrete in the walls has blown in the basements_ _ _how much will that cost to repair alone? Seawater leaks in on a high tide as does rainwater. The floors have collapsed in many areas. All the electrics are in a highly dodgy state as is the plumbing. It would be far cheaper to start afresh with a new building.

The White Rock Ice Rink is past any hope of restoration. Better by far would be to strip out the Jerwood Gallery and make that into a rink - at least ice skating might get a few more visitors than the dubious art on display there.
