Wasted Food

Postby Richard » Wed Jun 12, 2013 10:41 pm

I know there are "Food Banks" providing food to people in need but what about the people on the Streets who seem in need too ?

The major supermarkets will reduce food for shoppers on the day, but instead of allowing a Charity to call by each day and pick up the food, not bought in time, will not allow this and simply trash the food instead.

Seems a criminal waste to me !!

I would suspect that it's illegal for supermarkets to pass on outdated food in any way, shape or form. It still seems criminal to waste food though. Maybe they should put it out for the herring gulls and foxes and then they would be less inclined to make a mess of bin bags left in the street.

spoke to MandS in Priory Meadow about the issue and staff agreed about the waste but said that they now give food to "Charitable Organisations" at Christmas.

Even a dog is not just for Christmas !!!
