Just heard that Hastings Pier has been brought by a couple of business men who intend to turn it into residential accommodation_ _ _ I didn't believe it, so went on the Hastings Observer website and saw it's true!

In my opinion this is ridiculous, just a couple of men who see the Pier with a large "GBP" sign above it, who couldn't care less how the residents feel about it. It was built as a Pleasure Pier, so keep it that way I say_ _ _. >:(

An interesting topic which is likely to prove controversial! Obviously the information seems very limited at the moment but I find it hard to believe this is a runner.

However, assuming it is, is it a bad thing? Improving a run down building, let's assume with a premium property development, suddenly the surrounding area will take on a new lease of life? The opportunties for speculation (conceptual and financial) seem endless. I think on balance and on the basis of practically no information it seems like a good thing.

I'd say it should be kept as a pleasure pier. To renovate it as such would certainly give Hastings the boost it deserves. We need things such as this to bring holiday-makers back to the area.

I can't believe they can get planning permission for that!! I certainly wouldn't want to live there, especially as there have been 3 arson attacks on piers around the country this year alone (the latest had just been bought by developers for residential accomodation!)

Its surely crucial to the regeneration of Hastings and St Leonards to reinstate it to a pleasure pier, as this will boost the local economy (and provide much needed jobs) far more than a few fancy flats

I think the iron work would take a lot of investment to fix, so whoever buys it must have money to chuck at it. I would rather see it be developed than lose it completely,

I really can't see anyone taking it on as a pleasure pier as it would take ages to get a return on the investment, but hopefully i'll be proven wrong.

I don't think they have planning permission for it yet, it's just a proposal at the mo. But yeah well said Mikki

Just did a google for "Sir Michael Willmott". The only hits (4 in total) were regarding Hastings Pier_ _ __ _ _..strange that a lord/knight of the realm should not show up any where else on the web???????
