Yeah, I wonder who they pinched that song from? Led Zep were notorious for their plagiarism. I doubt if we'll ever get them to play any local pubs.

On the other hand here's a few local bands and people that you may get to see locally. I have no connection with any of these performers other than as an admirer and I count some of the individual members as personal friends.

Blackdown were recently formed from the ashes of several other bands that broke up. Individual members Kate Maunsell (vocals) and Jon Ewen (Drums/percussion/cowbell) can often be found playing with other local bands, Superb guitarist Alex 'Flash' Bolt can frequently be found working behind the bar at a number of local pubs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1ddNE7ICvg

Savage Messiah have been around for a while, but local guitarist Joff Bailey joined the band about a year ago. When this extremely talented musician isn't touring with the band or playing with other bands, he can often be found working behind the bar at the Carlisle, which despite its reputation in certain uneducated quarters and the often fearsome appearance of some regulars, is probably one of the safest pubs in town to visit, now matter who you are or how you're dressed.

Local folk band Titus features the inimitable Mick Mepham who, when he isn't performing his own one man show, can also be found playing with the excellent 90% Proof. Mick is one of those blokes you just can't help liking with a wonderful sense of humour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hm0vKvvNuY

And here is 90%Proof, one of, if not, the best of all our local pub rock bands playing live at the Carlie featuring the aforementioned Mick Mepham (lead guitar, vocals) Mick Paget (bass guitar, vocals) and Bob Shoesmith (drums). These guys love playing and it shows in their enthusiastic performances. You really need to see them play live to fully appreciate the great atmosphere they generate. This band has a fiercely loyal following and will quickly fill any pub. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfTkxoYspM8

Juicy Lucy aren't a local band, but a very famous one that have been around since the 1960s with various changes in personnel. Here they are at the Marina Fountain in Caves Road, probably the best live music pub for many miles, although not the easiest one to get to. The same remarks I made about the Carlisle concerning the regulars appearance apply here as well. Another very safe pub to visit, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHEcBOYAW9w

There are a number of other local pubs that feature live music and many other bands.

I find the Royal Standard in the old Town a bit too small and crowded for my taste and bands are often plagued by feedback problems.

The London Trader and Jenny Lind are great pubs on the right day, but (especially the Trader) seem to have a great many wrong days.

The Clarence hidden behind the town hall can be great, but once again it can get a little crowded.

The Tubman specialises in punk rock and unusual bands and is a well run boozer with many loyal patrons.

I have yet to visit Paddy McGinty's in Battle Road, but its reputation as a music venue is growing steadily.

I rarely visit the Pig in Paradise as they employ bouncers and that indicates that they expect trouble. On the odd occasion I have visited the place I've found an strange atmosphere of decay pervades the place and the total lack of anywhere to take your beer for a smoke and a natter is a disadvantage.

Flairz is a great pub, but once again lacks any outside area where you can take your beer.

I haven't visited the Norman Arms or the Nag's Head on music nights, but both pubs have featured some superb bands.

Sorry if I've missed any out, but in a year's time the list is bound to be much longer.

I go to Flairz regularly, its a nice atmosphere in there, thursday cheap drinks and sat they have have some good bands.
Pig in paradise is ok too,I agree about the door staff but I haven't come across anything violent up to now,I like the Clarence but yes its a little small, still great atmosphere.
Not keen on London Trader, seems like a place where trouble is just waiting to happen, haven't tried the standard but will give it a go soon.
Paddys is a cool place, very couple orientated lol suits me down to the ground and and very close to where I live.

Enjoy life.you never know when it will end.

I still think the Marina Fountain is the best pub for music. Good bands, nice atmosphere, clean, safe, well run, a nice beer garden and it's a good size venue where you never have to wait too long to get served. The only real problem is its location and the solitary neighbour who creates a fuss about noise. They also have open mike nights, quiz nights, comedy nights and the occasional (cringe) karaoke.

Try this from local band 90% Proof. Featuring the Mighty Mick Mepham playing guitar with a drumstick.

Remember this was recorded absolutely live with no overdubs and very simple equipment under rather difficult circumstances. They honestly do sound much better when you see them in the flesh.
