Best Pubs in Hastings

Has anyone done a survey or listing based (of course) on personal experience ?

I'd love to know what are your favourite places to drink in HSL.

It's an ever shrinking pool these days. That would be ok if folk were drinking less, but they aint what with pre-loading and cheap supermarket stuff.

Pubs I have used but have now slipped into mediocrity:_ _ __ _ _.the list is too long, can't be bothered.

The North Star in Bohemia is quite a good local. It does food and has a nice clientele. Clean with good beer and friendly. A bit male dominated though and I prefer a good mix of gender.

The Cinque Ports. Great atmosphere, nice beer and of course is in the old town. The Old town has always been the place to go for pubbing. Nice mix of folk.

Horse and Groom, again a good mix of people, Nice atmosphere.

Tend to spend most of our time in the Old Town_ _ _.Cinque Ports, Dolphin and FILO are the best pubs there. Don't mind some of the others either but if we have friends down then we tend to go to those three.
Other pubs that are good include The General Havelock, North Star, Dripping Spring, Ashburnham Arms and the bar in the White Rock hotel can be quite pleasent.

Worth mentioning the Duke Of Wellington (The Welly) much improved recently.

I like the Mount Pleasant in (wait for it) Mount Pleasant Road.
Always a friendly crowd and it's a free house too so slightly cheeper prices.

I suppose the best ones aim to serve, and therefore understand, the local community.
We like to relax and feel we are getting good value for money and not being used as an experiment in cynical profit-making.

The weatherpersons and the general havelock are both good pubs with differing clientele,old town pubs are expensive and packed,cant be arsed with all the queuing to get a drink

It seems that people have various reasons for choosing a particular pub.
I think we all put up with certain 'obstacles' such as greater travel time and queuing if the end result is worth the candle ... and there lies the rub.
For me I am looking for good atmosphere, tasty beer and occasionally what the Irish call "Craic".
Othertimes I just want to be able to relax in peace and think of nothing.
The old town is a bit 'cliquey-ish' in my opinion but I will take visitors there and to the quieter, gentle, civilised pubs like 'The Dripping Well'.

Old town pubs are generally a little more expensive than the town centre. In my opinion this is good as it keeps most of the troublemakers out. It amuses me that as soon as you walk through the subway to the "new" town on a Fri/Sat night then there is an obvious police presence. Must say something?

Blackmarket is lively at weekends with a dancefloor etc but very chilled during the week for a quiet drink. Polar opposites.

London Trader is a great pub for sitting outside and watching the world go by. Gets very packed in the summer but has always been a good atmosphere in my experience.

Cheers Richard ,good to see you here too,I guess like has been said its horses for courses,I also think the old town is quite cliquey,still its not something I give much thought.
Geoff has a point about the new town and the police presence,but touch wood I haven't had any problems,lol must be my age But at least there is variety to pick from and thats what counts.
