As new building is being erected on the promenade, across from Warrior Square.
It has a pitched roof and is reported to be a brand new 'fish & chip' shop.
I think it may be welcomed by many, but I am a little surprised it has received council planning permission in this location as a totally new structure.
It is true there is already a cafe nearby on the promenade area but we will have to wait and see how this one turns out.

Ah, so that's what it is. I have seen the roof structure from the road and wondered what was going on. At least it's not next to the public toilets like the other beach cafe. Talk about in one end out the other

There will be no toilet at the site and so it will be just a take-away 'chippy' also selling 'soft' drinks.
The planning application suggested it would be beneficial in the regeneration of St Leonards.
Let's hope people dispose of their empty trays and drinks properly.

permission granted to open from 8am to 11 pm Mon-Sat.
9am - 10:30 pm Sundays/ bank hols.

It will be interesting to see how this goes as a business. I can't see it being very popular in the winter months but I suppose a roaring trade through the summer would make up for that. Pretty much how many other businesses survive in the town I guess.

I've always thought Marine Court would be a good place for a chippy as the other restaurants (Indian/pizza/Azur) seem to do okay.

yes!! and judging by Brighton and Eastbourne there is usually at least one 'chippy' on the Pier unless Hastings has decided to keep it 'ultra-minimalist'.

The story so far, just to record the progress really...

It's almost finished and ready now.
They are advertising "Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas" at a low price of £4.50
'Blue Dolphin' is About £7 (at least) so perhaps it will be more popular?

The fish will no doubt be 'frozen' and not fresh, as Hastings does not have enough local "Cod" to supply the demand in HSL generally.
Added to that the best and larger cod will not likely be found in the waters fished from Hastings in the English Channel anyway.
The only fresh fish will found be at "Maggie's" and by word-of-mouth from restaurants who have received a 'catch'.
Or possibly that little stall run by 'Pat & Tush' when they are operating in the area of Rockanore - they buy it fresh and fillet it (Dabs) themselves.
