Re: Eastbourne Pier on fire
My condolences to the friends and relatives of Stephen Penrice from Maryport Cumbria who died in a fall from the pier.
Re: Eastbourne Pier on fire
A terrible tragedy which shows the great danger in working on a damaged and weakened building structure.
A workman fell through the upper floor, and injured his back, a few months ago while working on a building near Palace Hotel, White Rock.
I know 'carabiners' are used by workmen at Hastings pier because I found one on the beach below, very recently, and thought the workmen must be using ropes attached to the structure to secure them.
Very sad to hear of this loss and especially to Stephen Penrice's close family, relatives and friends back in Cumbria where he was a gentle, kindly man, and devoted rugby player.

Safety harnesses are definitely used by the crew on Hasting Pier as my photo shows. I would imagine that safety measures were redoubled after the Eastbourne tragedy.
