The latest I have heard is that the council turned down the plans for a succesful Brighton-based business man to redevelop the building, as well as the one next door.
He conceived flats at the rear with a sort of cabaret / meal area at the front.
Don't know why this was refused as they are both an eyesore now (especially the 70's style carbuncle to the left).
