Who would be responsible for cleaning road signs in Hastings? I must compliment them on a fantastic job they've done with this one. A great welcome to our town for those arriving down the A21.

Road Sign Cleaning
Re: Road Sign Cleaning
Now you've started something that irks me too Geoff.
There is a sign along St Helens Road for a children's crossing that is very dirty (looks like algae and grime) and I keep meaning to go to out one day with a ladder and a bucket of soapy water to resolve the issue myself.
Perhaps we could start a post with dirty road signs submitted from all areas and then send them to the council to shame them into action.
Possibly tree pollen and vehicle pollution is a causative factor in many cases?

Re: Road Sign Cleaning
It is probably outsourced to some privatised entity like serco, capita, or similar. There seems to be very little left of direct labour departments that used to be responsible for that type of thing.

Gerry - thank you, I will try contacting the council highways & transport and see if I can make some progress. The truth is I shouldn't have to, it's hardly some back street sign that nobody cares about.
Richard - please post a photo of the grotty Children Crossing sign. The more examples we have the better!

Calling them grotty children is a bit harsh.
Re: Road Sign Cleaning
My mistake, It is a pedestrian crossing-sign, but it amounts to the same thing:
I tried submitting the image but got an "HTTP error" message again each time.
This happened before but eventually it was accepted.
Unknown 'Bug' ?

Re: Road Sign Cleaning
Geoff, I am getting errors as described - but if I try uploading tiny file-size images I have no problem - what is the size to keep below please?

Richard

Re: Road Sign Cleaning
Hi Richard. The forum itself currently has no size limit for attachments. However the server it sits on will have, though you shouldn't get anywhere near that limit to be honest.
What error message do you get? It may be that your browser times out while waiting to upload a large file over your broadband connection? Can you advise how big are your files and I will look into it further.
