Hi Kevin, I have just looked in my Grandfathers book a bit more_ _ _..there was an orphanage in a house called Highlands, he says in his book "we entered a drive between two large brick pillars, the left hand one had a board attached to it announcing "The highlands". (I looked online, could it be The highlands BandB/hotel?)_ _ _there are photos of this online_ _ _
"_ _ _we crunched up the gravel drive to an enourmous red brick house. It was three storeys tall with an attic at the top_ _ __ _ __ _ __ _ __ _ _.we entered through a large stone pillared porch, the main dorr of heavy timber fitted with a big shiny brass handle and an equally polished letter box_ _ __ _ _a glass panelled internal door which led to a large hall. _ _ __ _ _.The wooden floor was polished, various doors led from the hall to the rooms on the ground floor". (there was a basement in the building which was a kitchen)_ _ _."at the end of the hall I saw a wide carpeted staircase leading to the upper floor, the heavy timber banister shone like glass".
The home was run by the Churuch Army and by a Captain Stoyle and his family.

Hi Kim,
My Nan Lilian Hyland was at the girls home on mount Pleasant Rd and her brothers were at the boys home. This could be the same one your grandfather lived at??? She lived there from about 2/3 yrs old but im not sure how many years she was there. As she got older she was surprised to find her brother William Hyland etc, as the boys often met up with the girls on special occasions. Sadly my Nan and all of her siblings have passed away and we have limited information about the homes. I will look up your grandfathers book!!
