Alma's Pub in Hastings, Sussex, England

Postby Barb J » Sat Dec 20, 2003 12:05 pm

I would like to know if Alma's Pub at 95 All Saint Street, in Hastings, Sussex, England, still exists. I would love to
have an email picture of this pub if it does still exists. My paternal great-grandparents gave this address on their
marriage certificate. They were married on May 30, 1887 at All Parish Church, there in Hastings. Their names were Thomas
Jenkins and Mary Emmalina Elizabeth Clark. Their father's names were Allen Thomas Jenkins and Henry William Clark.
Witnesses at their wedding were Alfred Edward Clark and Kate Clark. Thomas and Mary Jenkins moved to 267 Harold Road,
Clive Vale, Hastings and lived there till at least 1894 when Thomas died on July 20, 1894 in St. Peter's Hospital,
Covent Garden , London, Eng. Two of their four children entered Dr. Barnardo's Orphanage at Stepney Causeway, Ratcliff,
England in 1898. One child was my grandpa Arthur Jenkins. Can't find his birth certificate but brother Percy William
Jenkins, was born at 267 Harold Road, where mother Mary returned until 1908 when we lost track of her.Would love to hear
from any one related to this family unit.

My records which go back to 1926 do not show any pub,an Arthur Broocks had a general shop there and then A.Fuller coal merchant some 7 years later, in the 60's it was 3 flats

Hi,

The Alma Tavern dated from the 1840s to 1908. It was a cheap lodging house and beer house in Old Town. More info available.

I now have an 1896 Local Directory and the Alma Tavern is listed with Arthur Broocks in residence, so Arthur lasted quite a long time there_ _ _

A recent picture of 95 and 96 All Saint's Street. As can be seen, all that's there now are the three flats already mentioned.
