I remember Bottle Alley as we lived in the cottages Station Rd, we went to Christ Church School St. Leonards so in the summer we often walked home and go through bottle alley it's a shame it's been neglected.

If it's of interest to anyone, I have written a book dedicated to the past Borough Engineer Mr Sidney Little, and in this book it details Bottle Alley along with everything else he built in Hastings from 1926 - 1950.
Take a look at the bottom of the front page here on this web site, click on the book banner and this will take you to the book.

I haven't been along bottle alley yet since returning to live in Hastings, but have many good memories of walking through it after/before nights out in the 80's. I'll have to go and revisit it, sorry to hear it's in need of a facelift, that's a real shame, but glad it's still there,

I've lived at this address for the past couple of years, do you have any other history or photographs for this address?

I recall a lady being interviewed on the local news on the television recently and she told how, when she was at school, she and all the school children in the area collected bottles and glass to build Bottle Alley. I don't recall if they got paid for it_ _ _.wouldn't have thought so. When I was a kid walking through there, I often wondered where the glass came from. My dad used to work for Pilkingtons glass works in St. Helens in Lancashire and he used to pick out the bottoms of bottles with Pilkington's name on them embedded in the mortar. Also UGB was in St. Helens_ _ _.many of their bottles are represented there as well. He used to recite the joke_ _ _where do flys go in the winter? To UGB to be made into bluebottles!! Funny the first time.
