Arches - Caves Road

Postby trina » Sun Feb 28, 2010 6:01 am

I lived in Caves Road for forty years and still live in Hastings, can anyone tell me what the arches are that back on to the cliffs below Eversfield Chest hospital? As I have never known and cannot find out. Are they to shore up the cliff there?

Trina,

I did a little research into the cliffs, the caves and the arches at Caves Road when I was looking into the history of the pubs there. I will write about it on the 'Pub Memories' topic.

David.

Hi Trina

Yes they are simply to shore up the cliff, I get the fealing that Caves Road wouldn't be there today if it wasn't for that wall. Why they chose to use an arches design that stands out like a saw thumb I have yet to figure out.
