Apologies. I think the problem with the attachment is the Open Office software.

I will send it again today in Rich Text.

Has anybody else not been able to open the attachment ?

Am I correct ? Is there a problem with it ??

Interesting that the Fortune of War has come up on the other thread. An Inquest at the F of W into the sad case of a hawker who committed suicide in 1885 (my book p80) shows he was also a customer of the Duke of Cornwall. In his suicide note to his wife he said: "I have left my glasses at the Duke of Cornwall if they are of any use to you". This would be two years after the Wenhams.

From the 1881 Census at the Duke of Cornwall:-

Walter. J. Wenham 38 1843 Lic Victualler
Frances Wenham 36 1845 Wife
Walter Wenham 10 1871 Son
Charlotte Wenham 14 1867 Daughter
Kate Wenham 12 1869 Daughter
Ellen Wenham 6 1875 Daughter
Gertrude Wenham 4 1877 Daughter
Elizabeth Wenham 2 1879 Daughter
Charlotte Wenham 67 1814 Mother 'Annuitant'

'Annuitant' means in receipt of funds from capital investment
which suggests they had done quite well.

The first Charlotte born 1814 !!

Hayley,

You're welcome.

and the library book you mention ?

Was 'Figg' your grandmother's maiden name ? Yes

Did they marry in Hastings ? mI believe so

There's a Mary, E, Figg, Hastings, born 1861 in the 1881 census

Another in Hastings born 1874, Ashenden, Buckingham

Another in Hastings born 1897 Oakwood, Surrey

I'm checking the 'Duke of Cornwall' possible connection.
