Manys the night I'd end up under those big wooden tables in the nellie. Sadly missed. Where do all the old crowd from the 80's drink now (those that survived) ?

Not many of us left locally, but we turn up from time in the Nellie, the Standard, the Anchor, Jenny Lind and a few other places, but Mostly the Carlisle and the Marina Fountain. Tony's son Mark's still about.

Only ever remember one person ever being barred from the Nellie. Their crime was to steal some of Tony's sausages.

Just a curiosity. The photo shows the Nelson on the right during the infamous Bourne Clearances before the balcony was added.

And for the sake of comparison, here's a modern view from roughly the same place.

Re: THE LORD NELSON AND THE CARLISLE
I know the posts in here are nearly 10 years old but I wanted to reply to say how wonderful it is to see you mention my Aunt Tracey and Uncle Tony in such nice terms. I was doing some research on The Nelson and this forum was one of the results. My mum is Tony's sister, Yvonne. She left for the US in the early 60s. I used to visit Tony and Tracey back in the late 80s and early 90s. I haven't been back in a while but the town and the pub holds some good memories for me.
Aunt Tracey, as of my last card from her, is still going strong. She was living in Old Town somewhere on the High Street, if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks again for your kind words for Tony and Tracey.

I believe the current 'Nelson' manager/owner also runs/owns/manages French's in Robertson street.
