Does anyone remember a special school for asthma sufferers in the hastings area about 1960ish, set on a hillside where the classroom sides opened and folded back to let in the air during good weather.I made many good friends during my time there but had to leave early when my dad died.Is the school still there? if so what is it used for now.

Yes it was called St Vincents Open Air School, it is in West St Leonards on St Saviours Road, I was a patient/pupil there from 1962 - 1972. I believe it was closed as a school in the 1990's although i dont know why or any details. I have some very fond memories of my years there and it would be great to contact someone else who used to go there. Do you remember Sister Angela? she used to look after the younger children

Hi All, I found this as I was searching on behalf of my wife. She remembers Sister Angela. She was sent there from Huddersfield in 1952? She was at the school for around 4/5 months. I was looking for the old school on Google but could only find houses on St Saviours rd. I wonder if there are any old photographs around from local photographic clubs or maybe local newspapers? John.

St Vincents was right next door to St Ethelburga's church hall, my Dad is on the PCC there, my mother was a sidesman at that church. It went on to be used for special needs kids, then a nursing home
