My grandfather Ben Woods had a little tailor's shop in Middle Street until the late 70s. I played in there as a childwhen visiting on holiday. I remember a sweet shop ( Mrs fellows?) and a bacon curing factory opposite. Does anyone have a photo of the street or remember what else was down there in the 60s and 70s? I'm trying to flesh out our family history.

Hi Fiona
All I can remember is from my childhood. I am now nearly 56 so I was about maybe 10 - 12_ _ _or a bit older when I used to walk through the word. I know, there was an old junk car yard. Used to walk through it to get through to the School grounds (Red Lake School). Used to also walk through the road etc

Thanks for this, Josie. I think the business was originaly 'round the corner' -Havelock Road?? Was in the family for a long time, but may not have been there while you were wandering your way to school Wish I'd paid a bit more attention to the 'ageds' ramblings now_ _ _digging away at the family history -like so many!!
