Grand Hotel/Royal Victoria Hotel

I am seeking information on the Grand Hotel and the Royal Victoria Hotel in Hastings.
My Grandfather Charles William PALMER was employed at the Grand Hotel, St Leonard's-on-Sea, Hastings from 1894 -1897 as a stoker.
The reference letter he received depicts a picture of the facade of the hotel. My query is that the picture looks very like the Royal Victoria Hotel and shows a pier opposite it.
Were the hotels similar in architecture? Were they in close proximity to each other? Does the history of the Grand Hotel cover the era that I am looking at? If so is there any information available? Is it possible that they could be the one and the same?
I would greatly appreciate any info/photos.

Hi Margaret

These where definately two different buildings, one opposite St Leonards pier and one opposite Hastings pier. There is a little bit of information on the Grand Hotel in our History section on the Hastings Town History page, and a little about the RVH on the St Leonards History and Burton's St Leonards History pages.

If you find out anything else worth mentioning please let me know.

Thank you for the reply re Grand/Royal Victoria Hotels. It has put me on the right track, but can you guide me where I can find if there is any further history of the original Grand Hotel as the Hastings Town History page states it is now demolished.
