Re: frankie thunders shoe repairers
Yes ---his shop was open up to the mid eighties. As far as I remember he also lived in the area poss. in the Frederick Rd area.
Re: frankie thunders shoe repairers
he had been there for years, i used to go and talk to him when i was a teenager he lived up the road from the sussex pub does anyone know when he died and how old he was
Re: frankie thunders shoe repairers
I remember him well having grown up just around the corner in Mount Road. He always seemed old to me and I have this vision of a little bald man hunched over his sewing machine or shuffling around behind his counter. He was always 'grubby', as you would expect for an old-fashioned cobbler. I'm also fairly certain he lived on High Bank, next to the Sussex.

only just found this site. Poor Frankieas kids we did tease him. I think just before he died he received a beating from people who entered his house.

The first place we all went to after buying our brogues or solatio shoes from the fab boutique was frankies.
He would fit blakeys on our leather soles for next to nothing.
He had always been 80 years old and had been in the same shop since 1066.
Was a nice old man,am horrified to think he got beaten up.

I think the shop's still there, but not sure what it's used for now. It was in the Priory Road part of Halton that escaped the slum clearances.
