in 1898 my grandparents and one of my aunts and her husband lived at number 78 All Saints St. My grandmother was also listed as a @wardrobe dealer' at the same address.I live in West Wales and am now in my 80th year so coming down to Hastings is not an option.is it at all likely that the building in question is still there and if so is there some means by which I might purchase a photograph of it? My sincere thanks for any help you may be able to offer.. Regards Ernest Towner

Hi Ernest
If the place still exists I will get you a photo. Do you want a digital pic via email or a print via post? I think GBP5 for my trouble is reasonable.

Hi Ernest, I got your photos today. Perfect weather for it.
Please let me have your details by filling out the form on the "contact us" page. It's not wise to post emails etc on a forum.
Thanks

Re: 78 All Saints Street
Hi Geoff,Thank you for the photos, absolutely perfect.. I have another problem you may be able to help or advise on. I have two uncles one was the resident of the house you photographed in 1898. His name was Thomas. W. F D. Littlejohn, Who liked to be called Duncan. He was a musician, a violinist, and was employed in the Hastings area. The other was Arthur Auckland Key who was a Proffessor of Music and he was also employed in the Hastings area. In the 1901 census they were both shown to be living and working in Hastings. Both of these gentlemen were in fairly high profile professions and I am sure there must be records of where they worked and perhaps when they may have moved on. I have their addresses in 1901 and the names and ages of their children. Do you have any ideas on how I might further my Knowledge on their whereabouts since that last sighting. Iam prepared to pay a small fee for any information that may assist my search.. Warmest regards Ernie.

Re: 78 All Saints Street
Not entirely sure that the current building at 78 All Saints Street is the same building. Many of the buildings in All Saints Street have been heavily modified and often cosmetically backdated.
The now demolished building on corner of All Saints Street and East Bourne Street was at 77 and was once the Harbour Bar beer house which closed over a hundred years ago.
The Pulpit's Gate seems to be an enlarged 1950s reconstruction of one of the former houses in East Bourne Street or possibly the long extinct Boson Square. This would suggest that the current 77 was once 78.
I have this photo of the Harbour Bar in 1911 taken some years after it closed, but it's taken from Pleasant Row, so the other houses on the west side of All Saints Street cannot be seen. It's the tall dark building behind the wood clad building on the left.

Ernie, There were many Professors of Music in Hastings at the time. The title would probably be translated today as a music teacher. I will look to see what I can locate for you

Re: 78 All Saints Street
I have found a few press cuttings concerning Arthur A Key but nothing about Littlejohn
