Does anyone know when the Lido in St. Leonards on Sea was demolished and why?

Hi Julie - I have written a bit about the Lido, or St Leonards Bathing Pool as it was known for the history section of this site. Try http://www.hastingschoice.co.uk/HASTING ... istory.htm

If anyone has more info or photos I would love to add them to the feature.

Geoff

Where exactly on the prom was the Lido?
All i can remember as a child in 1957/58 was looking down through distorted glass which i believe were the swimming baths, just past Hastings Pier in the direction of The Stade.

Hi David

The old Lido was located near to where Harvey's Furniture store is, the old site is just a green space behind the row of houses next the bowling green opposite the Bo Peep pub.
Here are two pics to show the old site of the lido, hope this is useful info!

Here's an Aerial View from Windows Live Local, taken around about 1997/98 when the site was used for the construction of the Storm Water Tunnel.

Here's a recent Bird's Eye view using Windows Live Local, we can see it's just a green space now.

I worked at the bathing pool in about 1975-76.
