Convent of Holy Child Jesus, St Leonards

Postby Martyng » Wed May 16, 2007 1:12 pm

In the course of doing my family history, I have an ancestor who went to the Convent of Holy Child Jesus in St Leonards (?Magdalen Road) in about 1910-19. I also have a fascinating photo album of the school and people at the school at that time. Are the buildings still standing (I think the chapel is - ?St Michaels). Is the school still going - and am I right in thinking that there is a link between this convent school and Mayfield-St Leonards school out at Mayfield?

The convent has been closed down for a number of years now,it now belongs to some Spanish company who use it to house students (Spanish ?) of whom there are many, especially during the summer..So far as I am aware, from the outside, all the buildings are still there..Did not Princess Victoria stay there for a short time ?
