TB Sanatoriums
Re: TB Sanatoriums
I do not know about 1941 but in 1939 the Sanatoriums were The Borough Sanatorium at Frederick Road,Ore and Fairlight Sanatorium 495 Old London Road,Ore,this had an annexe at 20 Red Lake,Ore..
Re: TB Sanatoriums
I spent 6 months in the Fairlight Sanatorium from June to December 1951. Apart from the photos of the house shown on the old site, there were also a collection of two-bed huts on a rotating base which had to be rotated in the middle of the night if the weather turned bad. If you spent that long sleeping in one of those huts, going to a smoke-filled cinema of the day could be a bit of a problem. See the attached picture
Re: TB Sanatoriums
Ref the Hastings Forum photo and confusion ref 'paired houses' in Grove Rd.
1929 map shows current B&Q as 'drill hall', and only a few dwellings and one commercial-looking site at northern end of east run of Grove Rd. Majority of east side down to Ridge is empty.
That photo (post card?) therefore shows distinct houses on west side of Grove Rd - note gaps between chimneys to compare with Bing/Google satellite.
No charge ... it's the thrill of the chase for me.

Re: TB Sanatoriums
I think the Eversfield hospital was for TB patients.
