Long time reader, first time poster.
One of my wife's ancestors lived at 3 Tamarisk Steps
in 1891.
I have been up and down there countless times over
the years but have no idea which door/gate this would
apply to (if any).
Is there anyone out there with old town knowledge who
can advise?

Re: 3 Tamarisk Steps
Hi there cbe,
will try to take a picture asap and post it online here.
but don't hold your breath !!
I know of the Tamarisk Steps and someone who lives there now, but presumably they were exclusively the preverve of fisher-folk in the old days?

Re: 3 Tamarisk Steps
...from what I can gather a property containing several cottages (higher up and on ground sloping down to an area above the back of the 'Dolphin pub') was knocked through into one property some time back.
This property is now called 'No. 1. Tamarisk Steps' on the door but 'Mariners steps' on the wall above.
So it seems the property in question, "3 Tamarisk Steps" would originally have been somewhere behind the long wall facing the horizontal passage between lower and upper flights (of steps).
How or why they crammed so many cottages onto such uneven land, in the first place, makes me wonder.
That is the best I can do for now.
Will try to take a picture later...

Re: 3 Tamarisk Steps
Many thanks for that Richard. That certainly rings true in that
many of my wife's ancestors were in the fishing industry - a few
have lived just above in Tackleway too
