Re: Bushby House
Hi Whiffler. No need to amend/delete. It's nice to keep an ongoing thread, which will hopefully end with the answers to the original post.
Re: Bushby House
Holmesdale Gardens as seen on Google Maps, the road turns at the junction with Redmayne Drive down to the junction at Cornwallis Gdns., but, following the numbering on the 'upper' road, the even numbers should have followed through to the house with a crazy amount of windows with small panes, but for some reason that is numbered 31.
The houses that were opposite are now blocks of flats.
The street Dirs may well be more helpful?

Re: Bushby House
I love that house on the corner because it is so different to everything around it. Wouldn't fancy cleaning the windows though
Is it numbered as part of Homesdale Gardens?

Re: Bushby House
You have a valid point there Geoff, it is next to 30A Cornwallis Gdns so I got that bit completely wrong.
Clearly the bit of Holmesdale Gardens leading down to the junction is virtually bereft of older houses, on either side, which would have been there at one time.
So there must be a reason for that.
I Wonder why anyone would want a house with so many windows at 31 Cornwallis Gdns then, it is really quite extraordinary and totally out of keeping with anything else.
The two (double) houses that can be seen higher up are 22/24 & 26/28 Holmesdale Gdns, the houses facing them (not shown) are 15 & 17.
Perhaps bombing in WWII left the area derelict for some time in the part of Homesdale Gdns leading down to Cornwallis?

Re: Bushby House
The pictures from 1920, 1929, 1949 show no changes in the even (internal) side of HG.
Nothing ever between 26/28 HG and the mini Crystal Palace at 31 CG.
It's a puzzle - maybe a typo in the newspaper ad for no 32? Or a renumbering at some stage?

Re: Bushby House
Thank you all so much for all this information even if we really are no closer to finding out what Bushby House was. I did notice that the dog in the 1910 postcard was in my relatives card in 1912 too!!!
My old mother in law(she's 90) said that she had thought that as one of her family worked for the Evening Standard back in the early 90's that maybe it was a holiday home for journalists????!!!
Anyway lets keep digging its a real puzzler!!
