Hi Patricia
We have a (very) old picture of the Isolation Ward, not sure if it's the sort of thing you are looking for?

Amazing way of heating the wards by a central stove surrounded by safety railings.
I get confused by the history but think that the St. Helen's hospital was formerly the Municipal Hospital, which was itself formerly the Workhouse hospital.

There is a book:

St. Helen's Hospital, Hastings (1837-1994) 'Paupers to Pacemakers.
by Valentine, Don
Paperback, Published 2000

ISBN 9780953790128

Yes, the workhouse moved up from the Old Town to Ore Valley and was the predecessor to what became St Helens hospital.
Patricia, what era did you want a photo from?
Richard, that book sounds like an interesting read.

I was looking for photos around the 1970s era but any would be interesting to see. I am going to try to get the book.

Geoff, so the hospital really was a spin-off from the workhouse, I didn't know it started out in the Old Town though!

Patricia you can buy on Amazon (see below) but a local library should easily be able to find a copy for you to see if it is useful.

The book contains 7 photos from the 1970s. It was published by the Conquest Hospital so if not available in Hastings House in the Old Town or other outlet it may be available by contacting the League of Friends. If you are local the library should have a copy to borrow as it was produced with help from them.
My sister in law bought a copy for me a couple of years ago, somewhere around Hastings.
The 1970s photos are not particularly interesting.

It may also be available from ABE books on the internet, but I have not checked

I'll see if they have anything else when I visit the Library.
