Fellows Road

Postby Fellows » Thu May 18, 2017 10:57 am

My surname is Fellows and I'm researching my family history. Icklesham, Ore and Guestling feature heavily but I wonder whether anyone can tell me why there's a road in Hastings named Fellows Road. I would be very interested in any information. Thank you.

If memory serves me correctly there was an Alderman Fellows circa 1950-60s on the local Council.

As an aside there is a George Fellow listed as a fisherman in Hastings in 1623

Have just done a quick search on computer. I had the dates a little askew. It was in the 1920-30

'Alderman William James Fellows JP'
The road may have been named after him as I seem to have a thought that the houses are about 1930-40s.

There is also a mention of him on a 'genesreunited' site

The old Hastings family called 'Fellows' were well known for making pump handles (beer engines) for pubs to draw beer from a cask in the cellar - with addresses at 78 - 80 Queens road.
