Prince Albert without piercing!

Postby Richard » Sun Jan 28, 2018 5:20 pm

Albert is back, since standing half-way up the Clock Tower from 1863 to 1973, when it was finally demolished, the statue has been crumbling away I think stored in one of the old original greenhouses in Alexandra Park, for the past 45 or so years.
Now it is standing on a clearly fossiliferous chunk of limestone outside the Town Hall side- entrance.
Prince Albert as a piercing, I couldn't possibly comment, but I remember Prince Charles was once asked if he had a 'Prince Albert' and he thought it referred to his famous relative of that name.
Stephen Fry had to explain later to him what it really meant!

So glad to see the Prince Albert statue back on show after too many years hidden away in the Alexandra Park Greenhouses.

As for the piercing, unlikely he had one personally, but the connection with the name must have originated from somewhere? I always chuckle to myself when I pass the Prince Albert pub.
