Grove farm and grove farm cottages were in Crowhurst road ( originally iron latch hill) they were demolished in the 1970's I believe to widen & straighten the road. Will post a picture when I can work out how to do it !

Just had a look at the street directories and grove farm cottages were still there in 1972- sadly the directories only go up to that year.

Once again it is a vague memory but I believe these were destroyed in order to build Wishing Tree reservoir and divert Crowhurst Road around it.

I was at Grove School at the time and seem to remember this happening. I walked down Crowhurst Road and remember seeing the then derelict cottages standing sadly awaiting their fate.

I have extracted some text from my research for the Overy/Smale family history

"Grove Farm is listed on the 1841 Census Enumerator’s Book between entries for Hollington Lane and Filsham Farm that seems to suggest that it was situated near to the site of the present Grove School, which itself has been identified as being the site of a fine Elizabethan house named, The Grove. Hollington Lane is no longer listed as a street in the Hastings directory although there is a short road, named Hollington Old Lane. It is therefore suggested that the original lane may have gone past the farm, Hollington Church in the Wood, and then on to the Crowhurst Road that itself leads towards Catsfield."

"In 1835 a Charles Overy was paid £1-2s-2p although it is not clear for what purpose the payment was made. An entry in civil records for the parishes names a Charles Overy as a ratepayer for The Grove or Grove Farm in 1802, both names are listed together"

Grove Farm and Filsham were in the same family circa 1860 and may have been joined at a later date
I am attaching a 1900 extract of the map for The Grove

Excellent postcard. Such postcards are rare as they do not show a monument or picturesque scene. Thanks for sharing it

When I was at the Grove School (1959-64) there were extensive gardens which students cultivated and several outbuildings which could well have been farm buildings pre war.The school was built mid 50's.

My Family Mrs C Adams lived at "Orange Grove Lodge" St Helens Down Ore Hastings.
Does anyone know of this house or the family?
I also had a relative at Pine Ave St Helens
