Orbit Housing Association are planning to demolish clifton court, the big block of flats by the railway line near cornwallis gardens. Does anyone know if this was originally built by the council or anything else about it?

Seems entirely corrupt if Orbit can demolish it to build private flats on it, if they got it from the council like a lot of the rest of social housing in Hastings that was handed over to housing associations.

Any information or suggestions of where to look much appreciated! Thanks

I should image it was originally a council block, but I can't find much on the history either.

Like an increasing number of locals i've been using the car park for free town centre parking over the last few months. Getting fewer and fewer spaces now as people cotton on.

I spoke to a guy from Orbit outside the block (originally about parking there) and he mentioned there was a serious damp/mould problem which meant they had to close the block due to environmental health issues.

From what I read elsewhere Clifton Court was closed in 2023 and planned redevelopment is in 2026 (assuming planning permission is granted).

The block has been subject to much attention from protesters, and I have to agree it seems madness that these homes are empty while we have people sleeping rough on our streets.
