The Promenade, Eversfield Place

I have just rented a flat in this building, (17-18 Eversfield Place). It used to be a hotel. Do you know anything of the hotel's, and the buildings history?

I have had a good root around but can't find anything on that particular building. Many along the seafront were hotels, much the same as The Medlow Hotel which is a bit further along.

From a quick look on the Sussex Archives website The Keep it seems that 18-22 Eversfield Place was the Eversfield Hotel. There is a planning application dated 20 Nov 1950 for a change of use, so presumably the hotel would have been converted into flats in the early 1950's. There is also a planning application for a conversion to five flats at no.17 Eversfield Place but this was a few years later, in 19 Dec 1955.
There is a photo of the dining room of the Eversfield Hotel here http://www.1066online.co.uk/hastings-ph ... inside.php I wonder when this photo was taken, it looks rather late Victorian or early Edwardian to me. I wonder if the lighting was electric or gas lighting, I can't tell.

Well done Hollyblue, you got further with this than I did. Now we know it was the Eversfield Hotel we might be able to find out a bit more.

According to the Hastings Pub History site, The Eversfield Arms was the bar of the Eversfield Hotel and was situated at 1 Eversfield Place. Seems a bit odd the bar was so far away from the hotel. Scroll to the bottom of http://www.hastingspubhistory.com/page16.html

Eversfield Arms, 1 Eversfield Place, was located in the building currently occupied by the 'Gurkha Restaurant'.
Some buildings along Eversfield Place were originally listed as 'High Class Lodging Places' and later converted into Hotels.

Re the Eversfield Hotel, my Father-in-Law was billeted at the hotel towards the end of the second world war. The hotel was taken over by the RAF in December 1944 as a billet for RAF personnel, I am not sure how long this lasted. If anyone has any further info my Father-in-Law would love to hear about it. PeterT
