Is Hastings / St Leonard's really up and coming?
I know there's lot's of posts about this, but they all seem to be dated a few years ago and as I can see from a recent visit to Hastings / St Leonard's , a lot seems to have changed! However, i'm looking for the inside scoop from a local as I think you only really see tell tale signs if you live there. So, in 2024, how does Hastings fare as an 'up and coming' place to live? And have the school's improved?
Re: Is Hastings / St Leonard's really up and coming?
Hastings will always have issues as a very deprived brough and problems with unemployment, substance abuse and homelessness but name me a town in Britain that isn't the same.
Depending on what you class as "up and coming" then yes new shops and restaurants popping up all the time just need to look at Kings road and Norman rd in St Leonard's for evidence of great places for food and coffee and shopping for gifts.
Their is scaffolding up all over town highlighting how many properties are being renovated and how popular the town is for investment.
There are however major problems with sporting facilities especially for kids and the lack of "all weather" 3G pitches it really is a disgrace that the town has falled so far behind in this area.
Also the main town centre shops are adequate but hardly a great shopping experience, But the sea and fresh air meaning a loverly hassle free lifestyle make up for this in my eyes
I moved down 8 years ago and don't regret it and in this time can honestly say I haven't spoken to anyone that has done similar and regrets it. Just come down but make sure you have a job in place.
