West hill area is this nice or not?

Postby jane » Tue Feb 26, 2008 1:39 pm

hello
we want to move to hastings but do not know the area. We live in cornwall at the moment ,which is beautiful sceenery but little else. im very unhappy and bored here. My husband works in london (which is where we lived before cornwall) so im on my own most the time.
We desperatley want to live some where lively but safe. We were considering west hill. Were going to look at some lovely houses in the area on saturday.
MANOR ROAd , BRAYBROOK ROAD ,WELLINGTON ROAD are these nice roads????
We are also going to look at KENILWORTH ROAD which i have heard bad reports about, Why? can any one tell me.
thank you reading my message
any replies at all would be greatly appreciated, i shall look forward to hearing from any one who is kind enough to spare me the time answering.

WHAT A GREAT IDEA THE FORUM IS, ESPECIALLY FOR SOME ONE LIKE ME WHO IS NEW TO THE AREA.
BRAVO

Hi Jane
Of the streets that you list, I'd say that Wellington Road is probably the best in terms of people, but it's a VERY steep hill (and you'll be climbing back from town), and parking is a tad awkward. It's also quite busy. There was a major 'problem family' in Manor Road recently, but I understand they have now been evicted - perhaps someone else can confirm this and tell us what effect that's had. Kenilworth Road is basically bedsit-land - and the same is basically true of Braybrook Road_ _ _
Hope that helps - feel free to throw some more street names at me if you want to..

hi peter
thankx for reply.
so braybrook and kenilworth are bedsit land does this make it a bad area. ie are there alot of rawdy dhs bedsits in these areas. The propertys were going to view look nice enough on paper, neither of them are cheap.
Manor road,s problem family, if they have gone would this make it an ok road to live.
gosh! its so difficult trying to buy a house in an area you dont know!!!
My husband and i thought cornwall was going to be a nice option, After living here for 3 years we feel like o a p,s before our time, but very safe, very very quite and incredibly bored,me especially.
What areas would you recommend. close-ish to the sea. tucked away, from main area,s secluded but lively, not rawdy.
thanks again for your help. most appreciated :S :erm:

I would reccomend The Lawn, The Mount, Maze Hill, Archery Road, and Boscobel Road. Its very leafy like being in the countryside but by the sea

Agreed with Clive.. I'd also suggest you look at Blacklands (Linton Rd, St Helens Park Road, Blacklands Drive etc). Clive Vale's nice too - but you do really need a car to live there and you may find it a bit too quiet_ _ _ All the roads are named after Saxon kings - Edmund Road, Githa Road, Offa Road etc_ _ _

I moved to Manor Road about 15 months ago from London and have not looked back. When we initially arrived the street had a really bad reputation and there were gangs of feral kids roaming around. Since that time we have a dedicated policeman who has cleaned up the streets and now the only thing we have problems with are seagulls and 'rat run' cars. The problem family have been evicted and peace reigns.

I guess if you are still looking around the area a key tips are avoid houses that have been converted into multiple flats as the chances are tat least one of the residents will lack consideration from others. That said the council can be on your side if there is anti-social noise. They cannot do much about the seagulls screaming all the time though!

Some of the places mentioned above seem to be miles from the town centre and I cannot comment on their suitability to you.

Dear Peter,

This post is for you and Clive. My husband and I are planning to move to Hastings and I cannot thank you both enough (and others on the forum) for all your incredibly helpful suggestions about various neighbourhoods and roads in Hastings. This forum is really great for those of us who don't know the town(s) very well but want to move here. Primarily through the forum (then visiting) I feel I have a good undertanding of the housing stock, plus good and bad areas. Kudos to the administrator also. A super forum.

Cheryl
