Howletts Close or Farley Bank or should i just stay put?

Postby ruthstone » Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:00 pm

Hi everyone,
We are Housing Association tenants trying to swap Birmingham for Hastings. So far we have only been offered Howletts Close or Farley Bank End of terrace.
We are utterly desperate as our LEA has agreed to send our child to Frewen College in Rye ( its an independant school for disabled kids) but obviously we now have to move - 6 is a bit young to leave home!!
I have been warned that both areas are bad, and we would never get a swap off either estate. We live less than a mile from the city centre and its very nice around here-no drunks or junkies hanging around, never heard of any muggings or burglaries and people on the street are mostly friendly. I have no objection in principle to an estate but would like to be able to "upgrade" to non estate in the future. Would this be possible from either of these areas?
Also, anyone know of or fancy a swap? (sorrry, had to ask!!)
Thanx
Ruth :-)

Hi , we live not to far from howlets close .
I would have said it was a better area than farley bank generaly , we have never had any problems and the area does seem to have improved over the last 3 years .
Farley Bank used to have a realy bad reputation but i don't know what its like now .

Thanx very much for reply. Does anyone else have any further advice regarding good areas? Theres a possibility of a house in Mews Rd St Leonards or right in the middle of Bexhill on the housing estate about half a kilometre from st peter and st paul c of e primary. Im finding it hard to get anywhere off estate as my house is officially an estate (I guess people think it must be inner city full of chavs and crime but its so not and I must admit i'd be scared in a rough area!!)
Also, does anyone know about riding for the disabled in East Sussex? I have been told that I will have to pay but here in Birmingham its free.
:-)

Hello Ruth,

Farley bank once had a bad reputation but hastings council knocked half the estate down, now days it is very quiet and family orientated, also you have the bridge community centre that's just at the top of Farley bank on priory rd, this place is a god send for many people. mud sticks though. as for howletts rd i dont know much about that area.

The best thing to do, I think come down and have a look and see what you think.

Best of luck ruth.
