Hi, can someone give some advice on Bembrook Road please? We have seen a house in one of those closes of the road it seems nice the other houses look quite run down. Any advice will be appreciated.

I lived in Bembrook Road for 12 years. I don't know if all the houses are exactly the same, but I'll tell you what I do know. The house I had was built in or around 1934 like most of the others. It had been heavily modified since then. It suffered from small rooms and poor internal design with the combined bathroom/toilet on the ground floor and a virtually unusable corner in the master bedroom due to the position of the staircase. There were frequent visits from large man eating spiders. Several open fireplaces had been bricked up, leaving only one working fireplace. The result was a very large chimney area for a single fire and awkward alcoves. The house was draughty and difficult to heat. The boiler/airing cupboard took up a large part of the second bedroom. The other bedroom was very small. The area is reasonably friendly and nice enough with superb views and there are two convenience stores, a post office an infant school, a play park and Chinese take away within easy walking distance. It's about equidistant from Ore village and Hastings town centre. Traffic is moderate, but some drivers seem to think there is no speed limit in Bembrook Road, although that won't affect you in the close (these are locally called banjos). It can get a bit noisy at night with people walking home from town, but this is rarely excessive. Seagulls can be a pest, but that occurs all over town. Badgers, foxes and rats visit at night. I had adders (a potential danger to small children and old people, but otherwise harmless) living in my garden and many slow worms. In the early evening the area around the community centre can be very noisy with youngsters playing football. There is some anti social behaviour, but once again this is not normally excessive. There have been isolated instances of racism/xenophobia. Bembrook road only has houses on one side, so it is subject to the full force of bad weather and snow on the road can be a particular problem in the banjos. The ground has poor topsoil and a layer of heavy clay just below the surface, so gardening can be a problem. There is also a problem with people throwing blue bags filled with dog dirt into hedges and gardens.
