Does anyone know if there is any substance to the rumour that they are planning a new high speed rail link form London to Hastings?

Re: High speed rail link
I haven't heard this rumour and to be honest I can't see it happening. Anyone else know anything about this, we are all interested...
Re: High speed rail link
Hi, any update on this question since was last raised on here in 2005?
Im seriously thinking of moving to Hastings but commute to Charing Cross daily and was hoping the train might eventually be quicker than it is currently.
Grateful for any info,
Cheers,
Richard

I've heard about this rumour too, it helped my decision to move to St Leonards from London. I will be commuting a couple of times a week to Charing Cross and have heard that in 2009 there will be a hi-speed link between Hastings and Lonodon.
I really hope so, it's such a long journey otherwise.

To be honest I can't really see this happening, and this is the first I've heard about it, it would be cool to have one though!

Re: High speed rail link
Invensys Dimetronic has won a Euro 3.5 million contract to modify the ASFA national railways network train protection system currently in use on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line signalling system. Firstly, the UK government moves away from the idea of private-public partnership and decides to build a 320km/h rail link from London to Cardiff. The revenue is raised by increasing VAT by 0.1% and uses the increase in revenue to fund the building and maintenance project over a 10 year period.

Re: High speed rail link
I would love for this to happen but frankly it seems extremely unlikely and I've never heard any rumour to this effect.
I was talking to a railway engineer the other day and he reckoned that on the railway in its present condition using existing line, signals, locomotives, rolling stock etc. you could run a non-stop service from Hastings to London in 1 hour: but they won't do that, let alone put in a high speed link.
My experience is that the service is OK, and better than in some other places I've lived, but it just takes too long. Also for anyone out there considering buying a first class season ticket out of their own pocket DON'T DO IT!
However if anybody can prove me wrong about the high speed rail link I would love to eat my hat/humble pie/whatever.

Re: High speed rail link
I'd love to prove you wrong Mr Duffer but I also fear this will never happen. There's far too many stops on the way that equals extra fair paying customers for the train operators. Makes sense for them to leave it as is i'm sure.
Re: High speed rail link
The high speed ltrain to Margate etc has proved a joke. It actually takes longer and is very costly plus they have cut other more econical services!. What they have announced is to NOT cut anymore services as were planned to/from Hastings.
A campaign for a non-stop train would be the best option but wouldn't hold breath. They actually added stops to the new high speed rail which is what has slowed it down_ _ _anyway_ _ _this is what i read_ _ _best to do your own research.
Really doubt any high speed will go to hastings.
