I'm looking to move soon and have seen lots of very cheap property in Manor Road. Could anyone tell me if there is any reason for this?

If it seems cheap then there is a reason. When I was moving to Hastings there were always some nice looking properties on Manor Road and others on that part of the West Hill. However, after walking around the streets there I wasn't keen.

It's not that bad, but has a little bit of a rough vibe. For some reason estate agents describe the rougher areas as 'popular'. 'Sought after' is okay, but 'popular' seems to mean 'bad'!

It depends what you are looking for, but I would recommend: Clive Vale, Silverhill, Blacklands, St Helens, The Green in St Leonards.
