move to Hastings?

Hi everyone. In a few years hubby and I may re-locate to be nearer our daughter and were thinking of Hastings. We'll be in our fifties and looking to be close to amenities and also good scenery,walks, theatre, cinema and history. What is the area actually like to live in, which is the best part and so on? Any answers appreciated.
