hello
I'm another person threatening to move to the area from London. Coming down shortly for another recce.
I would really appreciate some insider tips on matters close to my heart - where's the best place to get a cup of coffee? a pint (quietish, real ale type of places)? or a meal -Italian particularly appreciated?
Any recommendations much be much appreciated.
cheers
jenny

coffee, food and pub
Re: coffee, food and pub
Hey Jenny
Welcome to the forum! You're really spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs and restaurants in the area so you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding your ideal spot for coffee, food and a pint or two.
Three respected italian restaurants are "Simply Italian" in the old town, "Italian Way" in the town centre and "Pasta Pasta" on St Leonards seafront.
Real ale type places, try the Dripping Spring in St Leonards (has plenty of Cambra awards for it's ales), Horse and Groom in St Leonards (locally known as the Doom and Gloom but a real friendly pub that doesn't warrant the title), the FILO (first inn last out) in the old town has it's own mini-brewery downstairs, and most of the non-trendy old town pubs would also have a compliment of guest beers and real ale.

Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated Mags.
Been able to look up FILO and Simply Italian on the web. Both look great.
Hmmm. What about fish and chips?

The Blue Dolphin on the corner of the High St and the seafront. Haven't been there for a while but it always seems to be the best chippy in the universe.

Hi
If you fancy good fish and chps would not recommend Blue Dolphin. Used to be fabulous is not as good as it used to be. Try the Lifeboat which is next to the Cutter Pub or there is a hidden gem behind the net huts but this is only open up to lunchtime. I believe this won the best in Hastings award a couple of years ago.

I agree with Jackie, the Lifeboat is good in the Old Town, Brunos in the Town Centre and Kings Fish Bar in St Leonards would be my fave choices. If you want to sit in for fish and chips I would thoroughly recommend Pams' Kitchen opposite the Carlisle pub. You can watch the world go by while you wait for the always freshly cooked meals.
