Anti-social behaviour on Cloudesley Road

Postby LW » Sun Dec 04, 2011 10:15 pm

We're interested in moving to Hastings/St Leonards as we really like the areas and have seen a few interesting properties.

In doing some research we've noticed with regards to crime, a high number (65) of incidents on or near Cloudesley Road in the last 11 months, many for anti-social behaviour. This is much higher than surrounding streets and seems odd for such a small road. We presume that this must include De Cham Road and have seen some comments on these forums about some anti-social behaviour, but can't belive this is all Gemma's footballers.

Sorry for the very specific question, but any clues as to why would be appreciated. The only thing we've picked up is it might be used as a route from the station, but surely that's just passing noise. We see there is a posh hotel on Cloudesley Road, but other wise nothing unsual looking about it.

This is our only real nagging doubt as we've loved our visits to a town full of character and characters

From the look of the street that you want to move to on Google maps it seems like a quiet one.
Have a look at each of the houses and see how many have been split into flats / have lots of rubbish outside. This can sometimes be an indicator. Apologies to those who live in such places and I appear ignorant, it is just in my experience.

My guess is that it is probably due to the station close by as you have said and that it is used as a through route. Is it on a run between two pubs / to from town?

Strangest thing Hastings one end of the street can be really quiet the other rather boisterous.

I live not too far from Cloudesley Road, and from what I have seen, it's a perfectly fine road.
I cannot think of a reason behind the stats you have found. It's not really used as a cut through, and not especially near any pubs.
It's possible, other roads nearer to the station may have contributed to your figure, but I think you should be alright on Cloudesley.

Cloudsley rd may look ok but its near the benefits office and lidl and that church with the dodgy vicar who married lots of people from other countries who wanted uk citizenship.
Plus its dark round there_ _ __ _ _.

Since the CCTV has been in place in our road things have calmed down a lot.
We still get the odd problem but nothing like before.
Hopefully it will stay this way.

Where do people get crime statistics they quote for particular roads in Hastings ?

Who installs the CCTV (presumably Police?) and at what level of crime is it required ?

For crime stats visit 'ere and type in your postcode: http://www.police.uk/

I think the Council Installs CCTV probably in areas of high crime or more likely to protect businesses. As in, how much CCTV do you see in our streets?
