Stockleigh Road is one of the seven street. The council is really trying to improve this area. People are moving down from London and buying in St Leonards. I walk down those roads all the time and the only problem I've noticed is rubbish. Partly this is because of lack of bin space and seagulls. These issues are being addressed by the council.
I think going with your gut instinct is the way to go, if you walk around the area you can tell pretty quickly what it's like and whether it's somewhere you could live.
