Looking to buy a house in Hastings

Hello lovely Hastings people, some of you may remember me asking about recommendations on estate agents in town.

Well, all the ones, I have been in touch with (many) are being shockingly not proactive!

We have accepted an offer on our London flat and very much ready to find a 3 or 4 bedroom period house, with a couple of good size receptions, S-SW-or West facing garden and plenty of character.

We would prefer it in town but well open to explore the outskirts too. We have a small baby and a large Labrador so it needs to be SPACIOUS

If any of you are planning to sell something similar or know of anyone in this position would you please notify me on this thread? I will subscribe to it so I am sure not to miss any of your precious replies.

Thanks Michael - no luck at all with PCM - the only ones that I have managed to build a relationship with and that give me the heads up of houses before they go on the web are Just Property.

We are going to see another one tomorrow. By the way, while I'm here, how is Harrow Road? Good proximity to town/woods?

Harold Road (HR) is very close to the new tarn. For the Old Tarn you either go over the hill or round it through the new tarn.

As for the proximity to woods, it depends on which one. If you have a car then Sussex is your oyster. I went to Bedgebury Pinetum t'other week (car) and often walk over the East Hill (overlooks the Old Tarn) towards Winchelsea.

Heading norf through Alexandra park reveals lots of woods and that is only 5 minutes from HR.

Not sure of the houses in terms of garden space on HR are they flat?

Harold road is a long road it starts from the top of all saints street in the old town and ends not far short of Ore village. Depending on the position could be a 5-20 min walk to the Old Town. It is on a bus route which would be needed or a car trip to the town centre.

It is not anywhere near Alexandra park but you will be very near to access to the lovely Hastings Country park and the Firehills. There is also a large fishing lake behind some of the houses. Clive Vale in general is a nice quiet family area.

Good luck with your search the house prices in Hastings have seemed to taken a large jump since Christmas. The only agent we found who have been any good was Just property.

can't u/s the attitude of Estate Agents in Hastings, they should be falling over themselves to help anyone looking for a house, considering they stand to make money out of the transaction.
I must admit I wasn't impressed when I came here in 2009 as many seemed chaotic at best.
Hastings is teeming with larger properties and should have plenty for you after a bit of a search.

As for prices, I was looking at my old place in London and notice that, last year alone, there was an 11% increase_ _ _
Hastings is going up as a result but property will always remain poorer until the rail connection is improved.

We found it frustrating with local estate agencies too_ _ _ On one hand they aren't as pushy as London ones, but a lot of them don't even call to say they have new properties on that you might be interested in_ _ _

Are you looking at St Leonard's too? If not it might be worth a look as it's so close to Hastings and there is a lot of period places here, we love it as it has a small high street with some quirky shops, it's creative and quieter than hastings seafront, we were looking at the Clive vale area before but it seemed a bit too quiet and suburban for us after being used to being in London (not that we get out much with a baby but it nice to not be far from shops and the station)

If you don't drive I've found the bus services here really good with a buggy - a bit more expensive than London, but easy to use, quite frequent and a lot more pleasant - the bus drivers even help with directions and smile!

That's a pretty accurate account of Harold Road generally the whole of the Clive Vale area is pretty decent and depending on where you are quite near the Old Town.

Agree the Clive Vale area is a tad on the quiet side, it has one pub now (the Belmont has closed) but with close proximity to the Old Town this isn't to much of a problem. There is a parade of shops on Mount Road, which does have the best Chinese takeaway in the area. The houses on the whole are very nice with a good sized 3/4 bed semi going for around 240-270k and if you want detatched theres quite a few of those around_ _ _you could pay anything from 3-400k for one of those_ _ _.not cheap but in comparrison to London and commuter land very reasonable.
