Moving to Hastings - Job Market etc

Hi,
So we are interested in moving to Hastings and would prefer not to commute to London for work -what is the current job market in the area like?
My husband is in the HVAC/maintenance engineer field and I am in the property management/admin field
We are currently living in Seattle USA but previously lived in London and Croydon. We want to move back to the UK and are researching areas to live and so far Hastings seems like a top contender!
Also another important question - are the locals generally friendly? We are in our late 40’s and are hoping to find somewhere more friendly and less hectic than London
