Double Glazing during a recession.

Postby Anonymous1 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:36 am

I am after 2 secondary double glazing panels (vertical sliders), cost approx 400 - 500 quid.

Supply only, I give the sizes they supply_ _ _..a simple job for them, they don't even have to get out of their seat. I'll even pick it up!

Well known local supplier_ _ __ _ _.I rang 3 or 4 times, result: answer phone.
I finally got through, they said they'd ring back, result: they didn't.

Bexhill supplier said they'd ring back, result: they didn't

Another local supplier said they'd ring back, result: they didn't >:(

Another St Leonards supplier gave prices for Luxury fixing and when I asked for a price for economy fixing they said it would be the same price 8|

_ _ _..what the **** is going on. I thought there was a recession on

Okay, my experience with three local double glazing companies_ _ _

River Windows - Seemed to have hidden extras in the quote - handles etc
MC Glass - seemed to tell porkies about the laws on trickle vents
Hastings Windows - mid priced but seemed most trustworthy - got the job

Hope this helps

I had the same experience. Roofers and loft insulation companies did not get back to me. I found a great man who did masses of work; was kind and helpful and was able to do everything I needed, even the small jobs. He even puts the toilet seat down after using it and re-arranged my curtains.

Hmmm, looks a bit dodgy going to a blog site. But I guess the info is usefull whether it's local or not.

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of River windows, we've had a quote from them to replace the windows in our sunroom and it seems pretty good.

Thanks

Hi,
I used St Leonards Glass in Silchester Rd. i needed to replace some glazing which my son had cracked.
They were a lot less than the other companies I checked out, and provided exactly what the others quoted more for.

G.K.

Does you know the minimum thickness for the glass in these DG panels?

I am gradually replacing all of the glass in my wooden sash windows with DG glass and thick 16mm is too thick/heavy for the sashes. Though it is cheap at around GBP25 per unit.

Sixteen mm is OK for my casements but too heavy for the sashes do you know of anyone who makes the glass panels thinner than 16mm?

NB Croft Glass asked for a similar price per unit of 500 squid per secondary glazing.
