Old Photograph copying service

does anyone where to get an old and much-loved family photograph copied by a reputable shop or otherwise ?
I'd hate to take it somewhere and find that it became lost somehow.

I used this place once and was very pleased. You just scan them the photo, so it doesn't leave your care.

thanks very much maparole, that is very kind of you,
someone in 'the old town' suggested I should scan it in TIFF format and take it to a photographers "like 'Marriott's" of White Rock.

I guess it is down to price and quality in the end, I will try both and report back in due course.

I'm guessing you don't own a scanner or have any friends that do Richard? I've used mine to copy a few old photographs.

Insomniac - I do have a scanner - it is a "canonscan"
The problem I have is managing to get a 'sepia' print-out on photographic grade/quality paper of a size I can frame and display or store for my records.

Perhaps I should take the thing to Boots after all or buy a system that can print on photo-paper at home.

Sepia printing (as in the old days) may be a different kettle-of-fish !!

Ah I see, didn't read through properly!

Your best bet will be to use the photo printing machines up at Tesco, as I've found the ones in Boots; and ASDA too, to be shockingly awful and unreliable.

If you're able to use some sort of photo editing software to improve the quality of the scanned versions, that might be an idea too. Geoff did for the Hollington United pics I sent to this site.

What sort of quality is the original photo Richard? Would there be much editing needed as this is what takes the time.
I have access to a professional scanner and top notch laser printer. Sepia effect shouldn't be a problem either.

Thanks Geoff,
On looking at the enlarged scan in TIFF format I see that there are indeed some blemishes I will have to edit in Photoshop or similar.
Also it looks like I need to get some professional 'photographic grade' (if that makes sense) paper to have it printed on so that I can eventually frame it for display.

So thanks for your offer but it will take some time to come up with an answer as to whether or how to proceed_ _ _
