Hi,
I am looking for some help.
I have a census from 1891 that shows my Great Grandfather living at Auckland Buildings in St Leonards, but I have been unable to find where the building was or is.
Can anyone help locate this building please?
If it helps, further down on the census another building listed is Sussex House and I did manage to find a Sussex house.
Sussex House, 110 Marina, St. Leonards-On-Sea TN38 0BN.
Perhaps it would have been near here?
There is also, what looks like, Victoria Terrace, listed.
Thanks for your help.
Regards Dave

If no one comes up with an answer, the Hastings Reference library will probably copy an image and email it to you. There may even be a picture on their files.
Sussex House is behind the Marina. I have found a Victoria Court on a current map, again behind the Marina/Undercliffe that may have replaced Victoria Terrace.

Re: Looking for Auckland Buildings in St Leonards
There are some old posts on here vaguely referring to 'Auckland Building(s)'
but unfortunately they do not reference their sources and so it is difficult to follow it up.

A 'Cripple Home' existed in Marylebone, London, which sent girls to St Leonards for their holiday by the sea to stay at "Auckland Building".
Possibly a Boarding House of some sort then ??
According to 'Hastings Chronicle Archives'
"The opening of the Seaside Branch of the Cripples’ Home for Girls, at 138. Marina, took place on 3rd June 1896".

Hi,
Just to follow on. I have been looking at the old pictures of Hastings on this site and noticed an image called Hastings Carnival 1923. In the background is clearly visible 138 Marina. This pic is 32 years later but still well worth noting here. Is it possible for me to get a copy of it please?
Thanks again.
Dave

That pic is one from my own collection which I can scan at higher resolution and print for you. I can do you an A5 print of it for £5 delivered. We could go bigger but the quality will suffer.

Thanks Geff.
I don't need a paper copy. I was just hoping you would email the best scan you currently had available. I wasn't wanting to put you out, or incur any costs.
Anyway Thanks again Dave.
