Thank you for that additional information.

When you say Half a Crown or 2/6d to todays generation, they are not aware of any kind of monetary value, so saying 12.5p gives them that

There was an organisation called the Hospital Savings Association (it still exists but is known as Simply Health) A person could make a weekly contribution and that could cover certain things such as a GP visit or perhaps a hospital appointment. Trade Unions and Friendly Societies had similar schemes. Of course it was hit & miss and dependent on regular employment. Attached document circa 1935-40

I did eventually get a reply from Hastings Library Services, to say the reason they could not locate Victoria Dwellings in the street dirs was because it was only listed as a sub-entry, under Mews Road, St Leonards.
Anyhow I found some more information at the Library today:

In 1885, Mews Road originally held a couple of Mews, Victoria Mews is listed first, with not much information, except to list a Skinner J.W. 'Job Master'.
(I believe Skinners' were associated with the Carriage and Motor Trade in that area for some time, before being wound up by the dissatisfied shareholders in 1906, following the suicide of its manager who found the company to be deeply in debt, probably because the trams had done them serious injury with regard to their motor cars, which had to be written down in value.).
However, I really don't know if the two 'Skinners' were related.

Harold Mews was listed (second) as containing an assortment of workshops and Foundries connected with Stove and Range manufacture, there were also listed carriage Builders, a Fly Propietor and additionally a larger Iron Foundry.

And so it went on until 1899, when 'Victoria Dwellings' was first listed (between Victoria Mews and Harold Mews) described as being'Tenements' with a total of 32 listed occupants.
The last record in the street dirs, of the 'Victoria Dwellings' (of Tenements) is in 1939.

A reasonable conclusion is that they were damaged during the War and had to be pulled down.

Marine Court was hit, so not inconceivable.

Also possible that new housing/health regs made them candidates for replacement.

My family are all the other end of town, so no-one to ask.

I have a copy of a similar map of Hastings 1930-45. There were about 8 bombs within some 50 -100 yards including 2 on one corner of East Ascent and one on the other. The description of the buildings suggests that they had become slums, particularly if they did have a shared toilet/wash house as suggested in the advert and the description of tenement

I know this might be a bit late now, but I can confirm that Royal Victoria Dwellings, Nos. 1 -32, were situated north of East Ascent, between Mews Road and Maze Hill, where Saddler's Court now is, and which was originally the site of the earlier Royal Victoria Mews.

After trawling many maps I eventually worked out where the properties were.
