I am looking into my family history and I am working my way through an old family photo album. The Parsons family had strong links to Hastings being publishers and owning a number of newspapers in the area. I have identified one of the homes in the album as Cumberland House on Eaton Road.
However, another property appears in a number of photos and I was wondering if anybody might recognise it as being in Hastings or not?
I would be most grateful for any help or information. Thank you.

Re: Parsons family
Anthony, there is not and as far as I know was not a road called Eaton Road in Hastings.
Re: Parsons family
It crossed my mind the address of the 'known' property might be Layton Rd, and there is a Cumberland House there.

Re: Parsons family
Many thanks for the replies. Please excuse my mistake, of course I should have put Cumberland House on Laton Road. I do not believe that the house matches Cumberland House, I will attach two photos that have been identified as being Cumberland House from the same time period.
Re: Parsons family
The only clues to the property in questions that I have is that it appears to have been owned by an elderly couple in the late 1890s/early 1900s and that this couple were part of, or connected, to the Parsons family.
The only other pictures that appear to show the property are of the elderly couple with infants - the windows, stairs and other bits seem to match the pictures up.
The only other photo that appears to show the elderly gentleman is taken in a garden, and there appears to be a large stone building behind him. On the same page is an infant in a garden with such a building clearly visible. Of course it is debate as to whether the infant and the old man are in the same location in the pictures.
None of the other photos in the album appear to show this particular property, frustratingly as well there is no order to the album and no inscriptions to identify people or locations.

Re: Parsons family
Hi Anthony,
My maternal Grandmother was a Parsons, but I think unconnected with your branch. However it sparked my interest and my first thought was that you meant Laton Road. I see others have also said that. Here's the entry for Cumberland House in a 1923 Pike's Directory. Note that a next door neighbour is Henry Cousins! Notable local historian, author (I have one of his books (Hastings of Bygone Days, and The Present, published by F J Parsons 1911), and editor of the Hastings Observer (publisher F J Parsons) until 1875!

Re: Parsons family
This is the Google maps view of Cumberland House today which seems to confirm the aspect photographed in the known photo that you shared.
Re: Parsons family
Here's the Parsons living in Hastings in 1923. Don't know if this will help you.
Re: Parsons family
And these are the Parsons recorded in Sussex in Kelly's 1905 Sussex Directory. Note that not all residents were recorded in the directories of that time, just those of a certain status. I see that there is a Parsons listed at Rosemount, Laton Road, as well as at Cumberland. Could they be related?
