Quentin Blake,the illustrator of Roald Dahls books did live in the Old Town but whether he is still there I do not know,certainly Edward Burra who lived and worked in Rye used to spend some time in Hastings and has a better claim to be on the list than some I have noted,and do not forget Henry Handel Richardson who could claim to be the best writer ever to have lived in the locality,her ashes were consigned to the sea off Hastings by William Joy,whose family are still fishing today, see Paul Joy..

Dr Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward, 1791-1868, came to live in St.Leonards in May 1868,unfortunately he only lasted until June..Who ? you might ask.Who he ?,well the good Doctor had more of an impact on the residents of this land,and of Malaya than you would imagine,every time you have a cup of the well known brew,either Earl Grey,Assam,Darjeeling etc,say cheers Doctor_ _ _There is plenty on Google and Wikipedia about him..

Quentin Blake,illustrator,especially of the Roald Dahl books did at one time live in the Old Town,Mickey Rooney,painter, likewise and the manager of the Pet Shop Boys and his friend were shown on TV building a house in Fairlight but whether they intend to live there permanently I do not know.And did not Princess Victoria stay for a while in St.leonards ?.
